Weekend was full and frantic. Friday afternoon I spent time at Feeding South Florida (formerly Daily Bread Food Bank) in South Broward. What an impressive new facility whose Executive Director, Judith Gatti, is doing amazing things to help our most vulnerable citizens.  The next day I met up with my old buddy, Ft Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, as he revived his city’s St Patricks Day parade. My crew showed up in large numbers, and Max (and his cousin Ben) got to ride in the Red Corvette with me waving to the thousands that lined Las Olas Boulevard.  From there we went to Hollywood Blvd to cheer on my brother in law, Steve Kurtzer, who every year raises money for childhood cancer research by shaving his head as part of “St Baldricks Day.” This is Steve’s 7^th year going bare for the kids.  That evening off to The Big Event for Big Brothers&Sisters of Miami-Dade.  That event is always special and I am grateful for that organization and proud to be a 25 year Big Brother volunteer.

Sunday morning my temple had its Mitzvah Day which meant a terrific number of service projects. I packed lunches for the homeless, entertained seniors at a nursing home, helped out with a carnival at an elementary school in downtown Miami, and gave blood.  (which really impressed the kids!)

Tomorrow will be back to Tallahassee, but it was great to be home with the family for a weekend of service and community.
