Today, Governor Crist showed Florida’s thousands of teachers he listened to their outrage over the Republican leadership’s waged attack on their profession. I applaud the Governor for using his veto power on Senate Bill 6 because our children and teachers deserve better.
 
Senate Bill 6 was not the product of thoughtful collaboration between teachers, administrators and experts. Rather it was borne directly from a right wing think tank. It was laden with conservative ideology, untested theories and political payback.  I opposed it because I was not willing to let my children be part of some political game or become lab rats in some education experiment.
 
It was unbelievable to see the public outcry over the Republican push of SB 6. The anger came not only from teachers, but also from students and parents who feared the dangerous path Florida was being taken down. SB 6 was wrong for Florida and, more importantly, it would have been wrong for our children. I am relieved that Senate Bill 6 was nixed.”
