Florida nurses stand with Gelber to fight Medicaid fraud
and improve health care system

Orlando, Fla. – The Florida Nurses Association (FNA) today endorsed State Senator and Democratic candidate for Attorney General Dan Gelber (D-Miami Beach) at the FNA Membership Assembly in Orlando. The FNA highlighted Gelber’s ability to fight Medicaid  fraud and improve Florida’s health care system using his strong experience as a top federal prosecutor and his years as Staff Director and Chief Counsel of the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

“Dan Gelber has been a long time advocate for Florida families and our members know we can count on him to fight the rampant Medicaid fraud in Florida that is costing taxpayers billions and limiting access to quality medical care for our most vulnerable citizens,” said Florida Nurses Association President Andrea Gregg. “Dan’s experience as a top federal prosecutor and chief investigator in the U.S. Senate has well prepared him to fight fraud as our next Attorney General, and we look forward to working with him to improve our state’s health care system.”

“Florida’s nurses do an incredible job caring for our most vulnerable citizens,” said Senator Gelber. “Our nurses see on a daily basis how accessibility to quality medical care can make a world of difference in a person’s life, and I look forward to working with them to fight Medicaid fraud so that we can reduce costs to taxpayers and provide more Floridians with the care they need.”

The Florida Nurses Association is one of the strongest voices for Florida’s registered nurses and serves as a resource to nurses and nursing students throughout the state.

Dan Gelber was elected to the State House of Representatives in 2000, serving as the House Democratic Leader from 2006-2008; and elected to the State Senate in 2008. Prior to elected life, Dan spent nearly a decade as a federal prosecutor, working mostly on public corruption, narcotics and civil rights cases, and serving as a top deputy in that office. He was then appointed chief counsel and staff director for the United States Senate's investigations committee where he focused primarily on terrorism and domestic security. Dan is an AV rated attorney and listed in various peer review publications including Best Lawyers in America and Florida's Legal Elite. He and his wife Joan Silverstein, a career prosecutor, make their home in Miami Beach with their three children. For more information about Dan Gelber, please visit www.dangelber.com.
