Gelber pining for Jeb Bush

“I miss Jeb Bush.”  That’s [more or less]  the wistful start of Democrat Dan Gelber’s blog post today.

Yep; the former state senator-turned AG candidate says on his blog that he is pining for his old adversary.  Sort of.

“Don’t misunderstand, I fought Jeb (and, I suspect, will again). But
no matter how much I opposed his policies, I always believed Jeb
possessed the requisite respect for our state and its people,” Gelber
writes.

As opposed to ... That, of course, the real point of the blog entry,
which itemizes Gelber’s litany of complaints about Florida’s current
governor, Rick Scott.

“His only interest seems to be pandering to a narrow swath of tea
party supporters by nationalizing Florida politics,” Gelber writes.

Dismantling growth management laws, deregulating property insurance
rates, overhauling health care for the poor in a way that benefits the
insurers ... all these and more appear on Gelber’s list of gripes.

Much as Scott has happily been signing those parts of his agenda into
law, though, one might note that Scott’s a governor, not an emperor. Is
it really just Bush for whom Gelber pines, or is it also the more
moderate state Senate of old, which blocked Bush’s most conservative
initiatives and would surely have stopped some of the most aggressive
policies that passed this year?

At any rate, you can read the rest of Gelber’s diatribe, which ends as it begins:

“Yes, I’m sorry to say, I miss Jeb Bush.”
